Welcome to grade 1. My name is Angela Langlands and I am beginning my 2nd year in Surabaya. After a very exciting, albeit sometimes exhausting, summer I am eager to begin another year in green, gorgeous Indonesia.
This year the elementary school will continue working on integrating the Primary Years Programme (PYP) into our curriculum. I have been teaching the PYP program for nearly 4 years now and I appreciate what is has to offer because it allows students to explore in their own way. Students have the opportunity to expand their learning beyond what the teacher “says” and examine the world around them in meaningful ways. The PYP program encourages children to ask questions, investigate, research, and perform actions that will help the world. As a mother, I love watching my own children inquire about a topic, become experts, and then work towards making the world a better place. I look forward to living in a world with PYP learners!
I know that 1st grade is a big transition in your little one’s life! They will learn how to read, write, speak; be expected to do homework, work well collaboratively as well as independently, and will be required to take care of their bodies and their surroundings.
